Valentine's Day

We had a great Valentine's Day! Last night I hung construction paper hearts over the table and hid Hershey kisses around the house where Gavin would find them...in his sock drawer, in his church shoes, in his gloves, etc. He was really excited when kisses kept popping up around the house.

I made heart shaped pancakes for breakfast. Austin didn't eat pancakes but he did eat an entire scrambled egg by himself. After church we made a heart shaped pizza for lunch.
Luckily, this pizza turned out much better than the last one we made!

Then Steven and I cleaned out the garage while Gavin played and Austin napped. Not that exciting, but the garage looks great and we have room to move around now. When Austin woke up the boys played for the rest of the day!

Playday

Yesterday, Kaitlynn, Gavin and Austin spent some time jumping together.


Kaitlynn made a Valentine's Day card for mom and dad. She even was able to use the glue stick all by herself.

She really enjoys doing crafts and creative projects! She is getting really independent with them too!

Gavin had a Valentine's Day party at school. He took in tulips for his teachers and gave them the cupcakes. Then he spent the afternoon at Gramma's house.

When Kaitlynn woke up from her nap she painted a picture. I asked her if she would like to paint and she kept saying "paint, paint" the whole time I was getting everything ready and set up. She loves to paint!

Austin is really enjoying the Laugh and Play House or whatever it's called. It's basically a wall with a door in it. It also has a window that opens and closes, a mailbox and other stuff on it to play with. He loved playing with the door. He kept opening it and grinning when he saw me on the other side. Then he'd close it and open it again.

He played with some of the other things on it too!


He's even starting to look like he's trying to crawl a little bit but every time he gets up he just drops down to his stomach.

Last night Steven and I painted our bedroom. I think it looks really nice. I've been painting all the trim and doors so they are brighter and lighten up the house a little bit. It's amazing what a difference it makes. I'll get some pictures up soon.

Cupcakes!

This week has been lots of fun! Monday and Tuesday were snow days and the boy who lives across the street came over to play with Gavin both days. He is six and Gavin is always super thrilled to have him over to play. It is very loud in the house for the rest of us when they get together.

Yesterday was my birthday! I have officially left my twenties. I've been dreading it for so long but in the last week I have come to peace with it and it actually didn't bother me at all. I have a husband whom I love, two boys I wouldn't trade for anything and quite frankly, there is no where else I would rather be right now. I got a nice purse and clutch and some glass leftover dishes. Steven got me some beautiful flowers. He always picks the prettiest bouquets.

Austin went to the doctor this morning. He weights 18 lbs 13 oz and is 29 inches long! That puts him in the 75% in height and 53% in weight.

This afternoon, when Austin was napping, Gavin and I made Valentine cupcakes to give to his teachers tomorrow. Gavin was a lot of help!

Of course, then we had to try them. You don't want to serve food that didn't come out right!

A Little Late

It's Sunday night and I'm just now posting pictures from Friday! Saturday Steven worked on the basement while the boys and I did some errands. Today we went to church and then to a friends house to watch the Super Bowl.

Friday we had Kaitlynn and Gavin had the day off from school so they got to play all day long! Kaitlynn loves hats and we happened to find a new one!

Austin hasn't been feeling good this week and yesterday his two top front teeth popped through! Hopefully he'll feel better this week.

Yesterday we went to Penney's and got his 9 month pictures taken! His 1 year pictures are next!

Back to Friday, I got out the house and people for Kaitlynn to play with, which of course meant that they were more exciting then any other toy in the room and Gavin had to play with them too. They had fun playing together even though I gave Gavin a hard time :-P

Then Kaitlynn did a Valentine's craft while Gavin worked on making a toilet paper roll George Washington. Kaitlynn is getting to be a pro with the stickers. She loves to put them on the paper and will spend a long time working on it. Gavin had a little trouble getting Washington's shoes to stick on but he managed. Then he asked to do Abraham Lincoln. Luckily, I happen to have a Lincoln one so we will do that in the next week or two.

So then of course Gavin had to do a Valentine's craft too so he worked on that while Kaitlynn practiced her coloring.

Fireman

Today Gavin and I read more about George Washington and Gavin found the state of Virginia on a map and colored it in. Then he watched a clip about George Washington's boyhood home from a documentary posted on YouTube. He also colored a very colorful portrait of George Washington.

Austin and Gavin played most of the afternoon. Gavin even went outside for a little bit although it was really cold and he didn't stay out long. Most of the afternoon was spent playing 'fireman'. Gavin and I had to 'save' Austin from the burning building. He even listened to Austin's heart with his stethoscope and took his blood pressure!

Austin was unfased by all the commotion. He has been sick the last two days. He hasn't been eating and last night he threw up several times. It's hard to tell if he's still sick or not because he is so darn cheerful all the time. Even after he throws up he's still smiling at you. He still wasn't eating much today so I know he doesn't feel well but he did keep everything down so hopefully he is getting over whatever bug he had.

George Washington

Here are some pictures of Austin eating his teething biscuit yesterday. He loves these things but they make the worst mess. I just strip him down and let him go to town right before he gets in the bathtub!

Today Gavin and I started learning about George Washington. We read two books about George Washington, located Virginia on our U.S. map and talked about the American Revolution and what 'America' looked like back then, state-wise. Gavin was very surprised that Washington fought against the Indians and we talked about how Indians were living here and we took the land for farms. Then we read the legend of the cherry tree. Gavin couldn't believe George had a hatchet to play with! When we finished, he glued cherries into his own cherry tree.

Gavin also did a dot-to-dot of a sailboat (George loved to go boating). Then, in honor of Valentine's Day, we looked up Bible verses about love and I wrote them on hearts and Gavin hung the hearts up around the house, mostly on drawers and doors so we can say them when we open them.




Austin helped with the heart project in his own way.
