Sunday morning the boys woke up to find leprechaun footprints coming in through the window and running to the kitchen table, where they found some gold coins waiting for them. Turns out, they are chocolate coins and the boys were very happy with the discovery. The sneaky leprechaun then left out the back door.
We enjoyed a traditional Irish meal with salad, sausage, Irish cheese, hard boiled egg, cucumber and Irish soda bread. Of course, we had corned beef for dinner!
Yesterday in science we reviewed what we had read about sound last week. The boys also watched a DVD television show that a science professor from the University of Tennessee made. I guess he has or had a local television show where he does experiments in front of a group of kids and talks about basic science principles. It's very low tech but the boys have watched several and they really enjoy them. Anyway, they watched four experiments he does about sound. Then Gavin made a sound cannon using a toilet paper roll and two Ziplock bags. He was able to make the paper move using his cannon.
Then he put his hand over the end to feel the vibration of the ziplock bag.
Today we read about the Pony Express. Then Gavin made a poster advertising for riders.
I helped him draw a horse on the poster...and by helped, I mean I drew it for him. He was actually really enjoying the project and I didn't want to lose the enthusiasm over stress drawing a horse.
He was fascinated by the fact they advertised for orphans which is why he put that first.
These are the books we read today. We also watched a short video about the pony express.
