Today was Gavin's first day of second grade and Austin's first day of K4. They both received a couple treats to eat while they were doing their work. I got these ideas from Pinterest.
Here was the table when they got up this morning. They were very excited about the candy, and even more excited about the fact that I was cooking so they didn't have to eat cereal.
I got this printable free from Pinterest too!
I made waffles and these bacon egg muffin things.
Then it was time for first day of school pictures.
Austin is learning about the letter I this week. Today he also worked on the concept of zero.
Adelaide joined us as her goofy self.
We are learning about insects to go along with the letter I. Today Austin made an inchworm on a leaf.
Gavin reviewed in Language and Math and we spent some time talking about new routines and expectations this year. He also reviewed his Latin vocabulary words from last year. We started Spanish today as well. In history we read about how people started as nomads but began to settle down and farm. This led us into our first era we will be studying, ancient Egypt. Today we focused on how the Nile River helps Egyptians farm and live.
In science we just talked a little bit about microscopes and magnifying glasses. Then we took a magnifying glass outside to look at things. Tomorrow we are going to get out the microscope!
This is the book I read today with Austin.
Gavin and I read the first two chapters of this book (they are short chapters).
Gavin read this book on his own.
He has been assigned this book to finish by the end of the week. He's already half way done so that shouldn't be a problem.
I am reading this book to the kids during lunch.
We are going to start reading this book tonight before bedtime.
And we just finished Matilda. Gavin really liked it!
