We Finally Got Outside!

So after many days of rain, we finally got to play outside for a little while today!

But first, yesterday Gavin and I started a Magic School Bus science workbox about Recycling. The Magic School Bus has about a dozen science workboxes - all different topics. They are great because you just read the script (it flows similiar to a Magic School Bus book) and then every little bit they have an experiment or activity. I love it because all the materials you need are in the box and it's super easy for someone who is not science minded which is perfect for me!

So yesterday and today we learned about how nature recycles itself through the water cycle. Yesterday Gavin held some frozen sausages (which we ate for lunch today) over a pot of boiling water to watch condensation and how water turns from liquid to gas and solid to liquid.

Today we marked a paper plate with a marker and put water in it up to the marker line and set it outside. We are going to watch and see what the sun does to the water. Gavin drew a picture of what it looks like now in his science journal.

Then we put soil in a cup, went outside and found a leaf, tore it apart and put it in the soil. We are going to watch and see how the leaf breaks down and turns back into soil.

Austin has learned how to play basketball and is very proud of himself.

Then we played blocks. I built a tower and Austin knocked it down.

Gavin and Kaitlynn played on the couch. Not sure what the game was but they had a great time!

When Calla got up from her nap we went outside. Calla played with the big ball for a long time.

Then we got out the trucks!

After a while, Austin managed to get the big ball all to himself.

Calla found a dandelion and was very happy with it.

Calla saw an airplane go by.

Calla and Kaitlynn had a little powpow on the porch.

After dinner, we sat down to paint for a while.

That was our day!
