Not too much exciting today. Gavin is working on adding two digit numbers with sums over 100 in his head...like 53+62, etc. He has been doing more written work in math this week but each page as a 100s chart and you fill in your answers on the 100s chart to make a pattern. For some reason Gavin really likes this and takes forever to fill in the squares perfectly and erase around the edges so they look nice. I wish he would pay that kind of attention to drawing!
Today for our Japan activity the boys did a woodblocking print craft. I used a meat tray (cleaned of course!) and cut it into squares and rectangles and drew an image on each one with a ballpoint pen which sunk down into the tray. Today the boys painted the top of the image and then pressed it onto their paper similiar to how they make woodblocking prints in Japan. They both thought this was neat!
We read these books today.
Gavin did a worksheet about the Japanese boy we read about it this book today.
It just has a two page profile of a real child from all kinds of different countries. It is very interesting. He also learned about the Japanese Giant Hornet and we added it to our animal wall. It's our first invertebrate!
For history we learned about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. We read this book and then Gavin watched a short biography about her on biography.com.
