Easter Party

This should have been posted yesterday but I left my camera at Gavin's school! Yesterday was Gavin's Easter party at school so it was a very exciting day. Before we went to school we read about birds that help other animals like the oxpecker and the plover. Then we read about mating rituals of birds before heading to YouTube to watch the mating dances of blue footed boobies and flamingos.

Austin practiced his farm stacking game.

I realized in the morning that the last two years I had made a bunny cake for Gavin's Easter party. Luckily, we had the materials on had so Gavin whipped up a simple chocolate cake for us. I forgot to take a picture of the finished bunny but he was cute! I was scrambling to get it frosted and decorated while feeding the boys in the hour between Little Gym and school.

Then it was off to school for the party! We had made these paper mache eggs last week. Yesterday we filled them with malted eggs and peeps.

Then we went to the gym for some egg related science experiments. Gavin waited patiently for the experiments to begin.

In this one the kids took turns spinning a hard boiled egg and a raw egg to see if they could tell which was which. Hard boiled eggs twirl faster.

Then they held an egg that had been soaked in vinegar so the calcium was dissolved and the egg felt like rubber.

I don't have a picture, but the most exciting experiment was when we put a piece of paper that was on fire in a glass milk carton and placed an egg on top and the egg got sucked into the bottle!

Then it was time for the main event...the Easter egg hunt! They each got four eggs and each egg had a play quarter in it and they got to spend their money at the Bunny store inside! That was a big hit! (They've been learning about money the last few weeks.)

Today the boys got Easter cards from Grandpa Ben and Grandma Sue in the mail. It was very exciting! Thank you!

We are still working on Jonathan Bing Dances for Spring and reading Trumpet of the Swan and Happy Jack Squirrel. We are almost done with both of these books. We also read a Magic School Bus Chapter Book about penguins on Tuesday.
