This morning, Austin started learning the letter 'I'. He did his 'I' for inchworm and ice cream dot painting.
Then I wrote down A, E, I on one side of a paper and a, e, i on the other and had Austin match the big letter to the baby letter. He needed a little help but is getting much better drawing a line from one object to another.
Gavin practiced reading blends and short vowel words.
Austin played this animal matching game I made. I found printable Montessori farm animal nomenclature cards on this website:
Austin matches the cards with farm animal toys he has that I set on the tray for him. I think this is going to be his favorite game of the week.
Our color this week is pink. I usually don't focus too much on color activities because he knows his colors but today he put pink gumballs in a gumball machine.
He also did these peg number cards 1 - 4.
Gavin reviewed middle, even and odd.
Then he practiced writing equations for words problems I read (or made up).
And he did a simple addition worksheet - finishing equations.
We started learning about the human body today by reading a few general books about the body. Then the boys took turns climbing on the table so I could trace their body onto a big sheet of paper. Laying on the table was very exciting! I didn't want to do it on the floor because I was afraid the pencil would catch between the wood. Each day or week we will learning about a different body system and we will color and cut out that body system to glue onto our bodies.
This is the coloring book we will be using that has kid-sized internal organs and such.
Then we looked at some Van Gogh landscapes and talked about how Van Gogh used swirling and wavy lines to create movement in his paintings. Then Gavin made his own 'Van Gogh' landscape painting.
Austin also had his interpretation of Van Gogh.
Here are their finished paintings.
These are the books we read today for science.
This weekend Gavin was able to recite Psalm 8:1-9 to Dad without help so today we started a new set of verses, Psalm 1: 1-6.
"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked,
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruits in season
and whose leaf does not wither -
whatever they do prospers.
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction."
And, here are the Van Gogh paintings we looked at today:
