A Beautiful Day and Gallaping Horses

Today was beautiful!  We spent all morning outside enjoying it!  Austin tried to take all the dirt out of my potted flowers.

Our mini sunflowers are finally blooming!
Austin seriously considered trying his luck on his brother's bike.
But then changed his mind.
The boys played with the farm animals and tractors in the grass.
Austin got distracted when the garbage truck came by.
While the kids were sleeping we read about Molly Pitcher, horses and bees.  Then we did a horse craft.  Austin woke up in time to help with the horse craft.

Austin is always very interested in what his big brother is doing.
But eventually he entertained himself by taking markers out of the bin and putting them back in.
When the girls woke up we went back outside.

After dinner the girls worked on their horses while Gavin (sort of) entertained Austin so we could get it done.
Here's the results!

Our Day

Our computer has been out of commision the last couple of days so I haven't gotten to post anything!  Sorry!  Yesterday Gavin, Austin and I played outside during a nice rain shower.  We had a lot of fun!

After the rain stopped we went and splashed around in the puddles!
This morning the kids played in the swimming pool.

Austin didn't stay in very long...I guess he got enough water with the rain yesterday.
Gavin and I started the 3rd state, New Jersey.  We are learning about Thomas Edison, honeybees (state insect), horses (state animal) and blueberries (state fruit or food, I can't remember right now).  We aren't actually learning about blueberries but we may make a blueberry pie if we get a chance.  We also read a book about finches today because the Eastern Goldfinch is their state bird.

After he finished reading and working in his notebook, Gavin made a kite about Benjamin Franklin.  We read a second chapter book about him last week.  Each flap of the kite tells something Franklin is known for: inventer, publisher, public servant, scientist.  He really enjoyed this for some reason!
Then we played our bird memory game - twice!  It has 100 pairs so I take out about half at a time.  After we finished the first game Gavin wanted to play with the rest of the cards so that's what we did.

Austin has discovered he can see his reflection in the dishwasher while getting his fingerprints all over it (actually, I don't think he's noticed the fingerprints).  Anyway, for some strange reason he likes to lick his reflection...I think he is trying to give himself a kiss but I'm not sure (as he also gets slobber all over my dishwasher).  This is a very fun game!
Austin also had his first very chopped up hot dog today.  He seemed to approve!
