Yesterday we didn't have homeschool because the boys went on a school-wide field trip to the theater in the morning.  They had a great time and were excited to be able to go together.  I did take this picture of Adelaide:

Gavin also finished reading for his last pizza with the Book It program for this year.  He read a total of 76 books in six months!

Today in math we continued to work with four digit numbers.  I would say a number and Gavin would show me the number using the Base-10 cards and the place value cards.  Then we flipped our abacus over and saw we could also show four digit numbers on the back side of our abacus.  We tried this a few times and then I had Gavin make a four digit number with the place value cards, put the number on the abacus and then hide his place value cards.  Then I turned around and wrote down the number I saw on the abacus and we compared my number with the number on his place value cards to see if they matched.  It wasn't really a game but he thought it was and kept trying to trick me by making 'hard' numbers, the last of which was 9,999.

Then we read a couple books about Daniel Boone, including one about his escape from the Shawnee Indians that Gavin really enjoyed.  After we finished reading Gavin finished the diorama he started earlier in the week.  He used glue dots to add trees and put a mountain in the background.  We found a log cabin clip art on the computer and added that as well as a photo of 'Daniel Boone' from an old TV show (I couldn't find anything more authentic).  Then he looked through his play animals and found some forest creatures and a small Indian family and put those in as well.

I think it turned out nicely.  Austin was very impressed with it as well.

One more picture of Adelaide...

Here are the books about Daniel Boone we read today.

We have one more chapter in our Thomas Jefferson book and then we will start a chapter book about Lewis and Clark.  We will start Jefferson, Lewis and Clark next week.
